Montreal, QC (NewsTechno) – Post Christmas weight gain and New Year fitness resolutions will definitely dampen FIFA 12’s top rating. There will definitely be an increase in an old time favorite fitness core game, the ever popular Zumba Fitness. After the New Year sales were counted, an 11 % rise in sale of the Zumba Fitness challenging FIFA 12 and Battlefield 3, rising from 28 to an unbelievable 6th place.

It could only be seasonal but along with Zumba Fitness were other fitness games like EA Sports Active 2 that rose to number 12 in the multiformat chart and the Wii Fit Plus moving 17 places up the grid to number 20. Aside from the force of the fitness-driven resolutions, the increase in sales of other console games was due to price cuts in sales. FIFA 12 however remains supreme despite its sales made a 63% drop last week.

So football console games like FIFA 12 may be enough exercise for some gamers. Surely this game will continue to be on top just like its predecessor which held the top position same time last year. According to last 7 January UK Individual formats chart, FIFA 12 (Xbox 360) remains in first place while FIFA 12 (PS3) rose from top 5 to third place. According to UK Multiformat games on the other hand, FIFA 12 (PS2, Wii, Xbox 360, PS3, PSP, Nintendo 3DS) remains on the top of the pack.

So what do we expect from this most popular console game when the PlayStation Vita is launched on February? It could be too soon to tell. Aside from another format to play on, there are several portable console games already compatible with the new Vita like the EA Sports FIFA Soccer to be released on February 2, 2012. More new competitors are also soon to be unveiled like Final Fantasy XIII-2, Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, SoulCalibur V, NeverDead, The Darkness II and many more.

Waiting and gaming seems to be the only thing to do. While hoping that FIFA 12 survives the seasonal Zumba Fitness is enough worrying about new console games and the new PS Vita is another. As the great Sir William “Bobby” Robson once said, “We didn’t underestimate them. They were a lot better than we thought.”

Vodafone to Bid for Internet TV and Mobile Devices Rights to Show DFL

Montreal, QC (NewsTechno) – Being the second phone company in Germany is not stopping Vodafone from bidding for the rights to show the DFL or The Deutsche Fußball Liga. Fueling its rivalry with the leader Deutsche Telekom, Vodafone will either bid alone or together with a partner.

Vodafone, the world’s largest mobile phone operator in terms of revenue, has branched in providing television for its consumers. The German soccer league will soon announce details of the bidding and the rules of the tender for the 2013-2014 seasons in the second half of the month of January.
But again, this is not a simple battle. The bidding war over Bundesliga broadcasting rights can be very risky for Sky Deutschland; the DFL is its main draw. Other companies like Yahoo! Expressed its plans to bid for rights for online highlights of the Bundesliga matches.

If the bidding is a success, Bundesliga will be a part of the many spectacular channels in Vodafone MobileTV. Some of the sports channels are Eurosport, My Sporty, Gulcan Koca (Turkish football) and more. Along with sports are news channels like Tagesschau, CNN and many more. Entertainment channels are also at the touch of your finger tips with Vodafone like MTV, TNT, MGM, NickToons, Cartoon Network and more. When the bidding favors Vodafone, thousands of Premiere League fans will surely delight in being able to view their matches using their Vodafone device.

Vodafone however has advanced on the turf of various German cable television operators such as Kabel Deutschland (KD8Gn.De) and another giant Liberty Global’s (LBTYA.O) Unitymedia. The shares of Sky Deutschland have lost 18% over the past three months; News Corp (NWSA.O) has a majority 49.9 % share.

While Vodafone is crossing its fingers, surely Deutsche Telekom will not go down without a fight. Deutsche Telekom is the largest telecommunications company in Europe. It was once a state-owned but was privatized. As of 2008, the German government still holds a 15% stake over Deutsche Telekom. It may have a strong rivalry with Vodafone over mobile television but it joins Vodafone as they both entered the cable-TV market in 2011.

How to edit Illustrator vector EPS files using Free Editor Inkscape

Vector images are commonly used to represent the structure of an image using geometry and numbers instead of describing each single pixel of an image. In fact, a vector image has two advantages. First of all, because the information related to an image is represented in the form of numbers and mathematical formulas, vectorized images require much less memory than bitmap images. Secondly, vectorized images do not cause distortion when resizing and when compared to bitmap or pixel images simply because only numbers in those mathematical formulas are affected such as radius of a circle and not the representation of each pixel.

Adobe Illustrator is considered as the industry leading in graphic software applications. Illustrator is the primary application used to create or edit EPS (Encapsulated PostScript) vectorized image files. If you don’t have Illustrator which is obviously not free, and you want to edit an EPS file, my suggestion for you is to go with a free software application such as Inkscape which is an open source SVG graphics editor.

You will need to install the latest version of the software but also install Ghostscript to be able to import the EPS file.

What you need to do is the following:

  1. Download and install Inkscape
  2. Download the latest release of Ghostscript and install it
  3. Add the paths to \path\to\Inkscape-installtion\bin and \path\to\Inkscape-installtion\lib in your Windows System PATHS. Click on Start then Control Panel. Double click on System, click on Advanced tab and then on Environment Variables button. Look for variable PATHS under System variables. Add the 2 paths separated by semicolons. Close all opened windows by clicking on OK. You don’t need to restart Windows. If you are on Linux, add the 2 paths to your CLASSPATH in your .bash_profile file and run the following command:

    . /home/your-username/.bash_profile

Start or restart Inkscape. Click on Import under File menu, browse to your EPS file and open it. You should see your vectorized shapes.

NOTE: At the time of the writing of this post, the latest stable versions I have tested were Inkscape 0.48.2 and GPL Ghostscript 9.02.
